Introducing the Christian Tradition
In partnership with Nashotah House Theological Seminary and St. Paul’s Catholic Student Center, the Stephen & Laurel Brown Foundation is offering this new opportunity for University of Wisconsin students and non-students. Drawing on local experts in the fields of Biblical studies, theology, and philosophy, we are offering a course on the Introduction to Christianity. There is the option to take this course for credit (UW undergrad or graduate students only) or to audit the course.
The vast majority of people, both historically and presently, identify with a particular religion. In this course, we will examine the world’s largest religion: Christianity. We will look at the fundamental ideas and practices of Christianity and how these ideas have been developed over the centuries. We will also discuss the nature of philosophical justification regarding religion more broadly, and, specifically, how Christians have come to think about the coherence of their faith tradition.
Another exciting feature of the course will be the visits to Nashotah House Theological Seminar and St. Paul's Catholic Student Center. Students taking the course for credit will have the opportunity to learn on-site and have an immersive experience in these distinct Christian traditions.

- Can anyone register for the course? Yes, but spaces are limited. We will maintain a waitlist if the course fills up.
- Is there a cost? Yes, there is a $100 fee to audit the course. Accepted students will receive a notice if any other materials are needed before the beginning of the course in October.
- Is the course available for credit? For current UW students, you will have the option of registering for credit with Nashotah House.
- Is there an extra cost to take the course for credit? Yes, the cost to take the course for credit is $800. We will offer 15 scholarships for current UW students. Use the code FreeClass when you register for the full scholarship.
- What dates and times does this course meet? We meet on Fridays from 1:00-2:50 PM. Fall meeting dates: Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22, 2024; Spring meeting dates: Feb. 14, 21, 28 Mar. 7, 14, 21, 2025.
